The 90-year-old, who played Captain James T Kirk in the Star Trek films and TV series, has become the oldest person to go to space today. He blasted off from the Texas desert at about 3.50pm with three other individuals. The Canadian flew on board Blue Origin's New Shephard rocket, developed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The Star Trek veteran returned to Earth at about 4pm, after spending just a few minutes in weightlessness.
