SOMERSET ― Hunters have killed more than 2,100 Pennsylvania black bears so far this year.
The four-day rifle bear season started Saturday morning across the state. By Monday morning, the Pennsylvania Game Commission had checked on bears from 907 successful hunters. For fall seasons also including archery, muzzleloader and special rifle, hunters have shot 2,129 bruins so far.
The largest bear weighed 645 pounds and was taken in Schuylkill County. A 630-pound bear was killed in Monroe County. Tioga County reported the most bears at 131 . . .
