Written by on January 22, 2024

Each year, Apple has a Black Unity Collection. As part of the 2024 initiative, Apple is releasing a great-looking new Sport Band for the Apple Watch in the next few days. It’s accompanied by a choice of new Watch faces, as well as iPhone and iPad wallpaper. Feast your eyes.

The Sport Band is the most accessible of Apple Watch accessories, its superbly tactile and smooth silicone sitting comfortably on your wrist all day. The new version is called the Black Unity Sport Band and it’s perfect for spring, decorated with red, green and yellow flowers on a black background.

Each band is unique, Apple says in a news report: “The Apple Watch Black Unity Sport Band features an arrangement of flowers molded abstractly across the band utilizing red, green, and yellow colors. Inspired by the rich cultural diversity of Black communities around the world, Apple used a unique layering process for the flowers to create tiny variations in each band’s design, ensuring no two bands are exactly alike.”

That’s not all. Apple has also customized the closure pin which is normally a simple piece of aluminum. But here, it’s engraved, something Apple saves for special edition bands like this. Apple again: “The pin of the band is coated with a durable diamond-like carbon finish that features an etching of the words ‘Truth, Power, Solidarity’ alongside one of four symbolic flower emblems. That’s a lot of letters, but it looks good.

For the Watch faces, there are several different looks, varying from a cluster of flowers to one that sits with its center right where the Watch hands are.

Raise your wrist and the flowers animate, blooming before your eyes (even if you just wanted to know the time).

The flowery design isn’t just about spring. It’s all about showcasing “a beautiful floral design that signifies a lasting commitment to the pursuit of a more equitable world.”
