Athletics Kenya has announced the cancellation of the national trials for the World Indoor Championships. The trials, initially scheduled for January 30-31, 2026, in Nairobi, were called off due to “unavoidable circumstances.”
With the trials cancelled, Athletics Kenya is implementing a new selection process for the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which will take place from March 20–22, 2026, in Poland. The national team will now be chosen through a time-based and merit-based system, evaluating athletes’ performances in international and sanctioned meets.
The final team roster will be confirmed after the World Athletics qualification period ends on March 8, 2026. Athletes have five weeks to achieve qualifying times in indoor competitions.
Athletics Kenya will focus its team selection on specific events. The disciplines targeted for representation include:
Sprints & Hurdles: 60m Men and 60m Hurdles Women.
Middle Distance: 400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m (all for both Men and Women).
Athletics Kenya has instructed athletes to continue training and preparing for upcoming competitions. The federation’s technical team will monitor performances closely to select the strongest possible team for the championships in Poland.
