Kenya’s leading track and field athletes will compete at Thika Stadium from January 15–17. The event marks the second leg of the AK Track and Field Weekend Meeting and serves as an early-season assessment for athletes.
Athletics Kenya competition director Kennedy Tanui confirmed that preparations are complete and bib number distribution will occur on Wednesday, January 14. Registration will not be available on the days of the competition.
The Thika meet will feature 14 events. Track races include the 100m, 110m/100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, 10,000m, and race walk for both men and women. Field events will consist of hammer throw, javelin, discus, shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, decathlon, and heptathlon. The pole vault event will be held at a subsequent meeting.
Kennedy Tanui stated that the meet is intended to help shape athletes for a demanding 2026 season. The year includes the Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics, Africa Senior Championships, and the inaugural Ultimate Challenge in Budapest.
The 2026 athletic calendar includes several significant competitions. The World Athletics Indoor Championships are scheduled for March 20–22 in Torun, Poland. The World Athletics Relays will take place May 2–3 in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Diamond League circuit will run from May 8 to September 5, culminating in a final in Brussels, Belgium. The Commonwealth Games are set for July 27–August 1 in Glasgow, with Kenya aiming to improve upon its 20 medals earned in Birmingham in 2022.
The World Athletics U20 Championships will be held August 4–9 in Eugene, Oregon, followed by the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship from September 11–13 in Budapest. The 2026 Summer Youth Olympics will conclude the year, taking place October 31 – November 13 in Dakar, Senegal.
