Kenyan singer Bahati delivered a moving tribute to Teresa Auma, the late mother of his close friend and fellow artist, Mr.Seed. At a memorial service held on September 12, Bahati shared emotional memories of how Auma became a maternal figure to him, despite not being his biological mother.
Bahati and Mr. Seed’s friendship dates back to their youth in Mathare, where they both began their careers as dancers.During a time when Bahati was struggling with homelessness and lack of support, Auma welcomed him into her home and provided him with the love and care he needed. She supported him through his secondary education and continued to assist him even after he achieved success in his music career.
Bahati recalled Auma’s unwavering support, from sewing clothes for him to providing guidance during his relationship with Diana Marua. He expressed deep gratitude for her selfless love and the positive impact she had on his life.
One of Auma’s most admirable qualities was her neutrality in the occasional disagreements between Bahati and Mr. Seed. She always prioritized their well-being and avoided taking sides in their disputes.
Bahati shared his regret for not visiting Auma when she was in Nairobi, despite their frequent phone calls. He expressed his sadness over not being able to be with her in her final moments.
The memorial service concluded with Bahati performing a special song dedicated to Auma. His emotional performance moved the crowd, and tears flowed freely as he sang in her honor. Teresa Auma’s passing has left a lasting void in the lives of Bahati and Mr. Seed, but her memory will forever be cherished.
