CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - There’s been some improvement in the fire burning in the Croatan National Forest.
The U.S. Forest Service says the Black Swamp Fire is now 70% contained, up from 60%. The size of the fire remains at 950 acres.
The fire was first noticed two Sundays ago.
Foresters say four pumps are being used to submerge the peat soil fire, while crews continue to use sprinklers and engines.
