Chief Donna Black named deputy U.S. fire administrator

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. — During a keynote address at the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ (IAFC) Volunteer and Combination Officer Symposium, U.S. Fire Administrator Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell announced that Chief Donna Black will assume the role of Deputy U.S. Fire Administrator on December 15, 2024.
Black brings over 27 years of dedicated service in the fire profession, where she has worked as both a paid and volunteer firefighter. Her career reached a milestone in 2006 when she was appointed fire chief for the Town of Duck, North Carolina., the U.S. Fire Administration said in a news release.
A well-respected leader, Black is a past president of the IAFC and has been a vocal advocate for the Fire Service One Voice initiative, advancing the National Fire Strategy through collaboration and unity within the fire service, the U.S. Fire Administration said.
Dr. Moore-Merrell praised Black’s extensive experience and leadership, highlighting her significant contributions to the firefighting community.
