Tanzanian music icon Diamond Platnumz has shocked fans after abruptly deleting all photos and videos supporting CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan from his social media accounts.
The dramatic move comes amid widespread protests and unrest following Tanzania’s disputed October 29, 2025, general election, which has left several regions engulfed in violence.
Diamond Erases Political Endorsements Amid Rising Tensions
Sources close to the artist revealed that the purge was likely a precautionary step, as tensions escalate and public figures affiliated with the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) face growing hostility from opposition supporters.
In recent days, videos circulating online have shown angry mobs targeting property belonging to celebrities and influencers who openly campaigned for President Samia’s re-election.
Among the victims is rapper Billnas, whose electronics store was vandalized and set ablaze. His wife, singer Nandy, confirmed the incident on social media, condemning the attacks. Similarly, Bongo movie star Shilole reportedly lost her restaurant in Dar es Salaam after protesters torched it, accusing her of “supporting oppression.”
Diamond, one of the most prominent celebrity endorsers of Samia’s campaign, had featured in rallies, campaign songs, and televised ads promoting her candidacy. His sudden online clean-up has therefore sparked intense debate — with some calling it an act of self-preservation, while others view it as cowardice under pressure.
“Given the violence targeting CCM supporters and those linked to the ruling party, Diamond’s move makes sense. He’s protecting himself and his brand,” a source from his Wasafi label told local media.

The 2025 Tanzanian general election has been described by observers as one of the most tense in the nation’s history. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who assumed office in 2021 following the death of John Magufuli, sought a renewed mandate under the CCM banner.
