Former U.S. Postal Service supervisor pleads guilty to stealing cash and gift cards

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A former U.S. Postal Service supervisor has pleaded guilty to stealing cash and gift cards from the mail.
Debra Watson, 64, of Chicopee, MA, entered her plea on Tuesday, admitting to the obstruction of mails.
Watson was employed at the Postal Service’s processing and distributing center in Hartford.
Between December 2021 and July 2022, she intercepted envelopes, removed cash and gift cards, resealed them, and then returned the tampered envelopes to the mail stream at different locations.
When confronted by law enforcement on July 15, 2022, Watson had fifty-three pieces of mail in her possession, along with a $500 gift card that she had stolen.
Watson now faces a maximum prison sentence of six months.
Her sentencing is set for January 21, 2025.
