George Alhassan blames player commitment challenges on Black Stars coaches – Citi Sports Online

Black Stars legend George Alhassan has questioned Black Stars head coach Otto Addo’s role in questions over player commitment to Ghana’s national men’s football team.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports where he shared his thoughts on the Black Stars’ failed attempt to qualify to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Ghana failed to qualify to the AFCON in 20 years in the process; the Black Stars failed to win a game in six outings in Group F as Angola and Sudan progressed to next year’s competition.

Aside sounding unimpressed with Otto Addo’s assistants including former Black Stars defender John Paintsil, George Alhassan, who won the 1982 AFCON with Ghana, also spoke on the rife issue of player commitment to the national team. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“They are committed…In our case, I don’t think we have a good coach because if you have a good coach, things like this wouldn’t have happened. So in our case, this particular issue, it’s coaching stuff.

“Me I won’t blame GFA (Ghana Football Association) and other people, it’s the technical team. No player will wear a jersey and (would want to) go and disgrace himself; for me, I believe it’s the coaches.”
