JKIA Operations Fully Restored After Temporary Suspension Due To Mass Mourner Influx

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has fully resumed normal operations following a temporary suspension earlier today. The closure was necessitated by a severe security situation that arose following the arrival of the remains of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The mortal remains of the revered politician, who passed away on Wednesday in Kerala, India, arrived at the airport on a flight that was keenly tracked by Kenyans globally. In anticipation of a massive turnout of supporters, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and security agencies implemented comprehensive plans to ensure the safe and dignified reception of the body while minimizing disruption to scheduled air travel.
Heightened Security and Crowd Management
Security was noticeably heightened at and around the airport premises. Uniformed and plainclothes police officers were deployed across the terminals and access roads.
Normal Flight Schedule Largely Maintained
Despite the solemn and highly sensitive event, scheduled domestic and international flight arrivals and departures were largely maintained. Airport management prioritized the smooth flow of passengers, using alternate routes and procedures where necessary to accommodate the state ceremony.
The body of the former Prime Minister was received by a delegation of national leaders and family before being transferred to a hearse for the procession into the city, where public viewing and subsequent state funeral events are scheduled to take place during the seven-day national mourning period declared by President William Ruto.
