Kenya is aiming for a fourth World Athletics Cross Country Championships title in the mixed relay event at the Tallahassee 26 competition. The nation has demonstrated dominance in this discipline since its introduction in 2017.
Reynold Cheruiyot, Kyumbe Munguti, and Purity Chepkirui, key members of the 2024 winning team, are set to compete in Florida. Cheruiyot, a world 1500m bronze medalist, secured victory in Kenya’s 2km trial race in October, followed by Munguti, who also contributed to the 2023 mixed relay gold. Chepkirui, the 2021 world U20 1500m champion, won the women’s trial race. Winfred Mbithe, a mixed relay gold medalist in 2017 and bronze medalist in 2019, is also part of the squad, with the final team selection pending.
Ethiopia, the 2019 champions, presents a significant challenge. Despite facing visa complications, they have assembled a competitive team featuring Hirut Meshesha, a 2022 world indoor 1500m bronze medalist; Gela Hambese, an African 10,000m bronze medalist; and Wegene Adisu, a 2021 world U20 1500m silver medalist.
Australia, who secured bronze in Bathurst three years ago, will field a strong team. Olympic 1500m silver medalist Jessica Hull and Commonwealth 1500m champion Ollie Hoare are returning for relay duty. Linden Hall, Sarah Billings, and Jack Anstey complete the Australian relay pool.
Great Britain & Northern Ireland, bronze medalists two years ago, has announced a squad with several returning athletes. Thomas Keen, Adam Fogg, and Alexandra Millard, who were on the podium in 2024, are joined by world road mile silver medalist Callum Elson.
The United States team features Sage Hurta-Klecker, a fifth-place finisher in the 800m at last year’s World Championships, and Ethan Strand, the NCAA indoor 3000m champion.
Morocco, the 2019 silver medalists, are considered contenders, with their team including Enass Essayi and Fouad Messaoudi. France’s team is led by European indoor 1500m champion Agathe Guillemot.
