Kenya wins World Cross Country Championships

Kenya achieved a dominant performance at the World Cross Country Championships, Tallahassee 2026, held in Florida, USA. The nation secured the top position overall among 15 participating countries, reinforcing its reputation as a global leader in distance running.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya praised Team Kenya’s achievements, highlighting the country’s strong showing and reaffirming its position in the world of athletics.

Medal Summary

Kenya concluded the championships with a total of nine medals. This included two individual gold medals, one team gold, one individual silver, three team silver medals, and two individual bronze medals. The results demonstrated the depth, discipline, and consistency of Kenyan athletes across various categories.

Under-20 Men’s 8km Race

Kenya achieved a historic clean sweep in the Under-20 Men’s 8km race. Frankline Kibet secured gold with a time of 23:18, followed by Emmanuel Kiprono who earned silver in 23:20, and Andrew Kiptoo Kiptoo who claimed bronze in 23:28. The Under-20 women’s team also contributed significantly, earning team gold and silver respectively.

Senior Women’s 10km Race

Agnes Ngetich delivered a world-class performance in the Senior Women’s 10km race, winning gold in 31:28. The women’s team secured silver in the team standings with 39 points.

Senior Men’s 10km Race

Daniel Ebenyo secured bronze in the Senior Men’s 10km race with a time of 28:45. The senior men’s team finished second overall, earning silver with 34 points.

Government Support and Future Initiatives

Sports Cabinet Secretary Mvurya acknowledged the efforts of all Kenyan athletes who competed and emphasized the importance of continued investment in sports development. He cited President William Ruto’s initiatives, including investment in training centers, sports academies, and improved welfare systems, to foster a supportive environment for athletes at all levels.
