FRANKFORT, Ky. (WBKO) – This week, Rep. Josh Branscum of Russell Springs filed House Joint Resolution 5, which would designate the entire route of U.S. Route 127 in Russell County as the “Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps Memorial Highway.”
“Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps was a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his community and its citizens,” Branscum said in a release. “It was an honor to file the joint resolution designating the “Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps Memorial Highway” in Russell County to commemorate his legacy and sacrifice.”
Deputy Sheriff Phipps dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community. According to the release, he served with the Louisville Metro Police Department and then as a Deputy Sheriff with the Russel County Sheriff’s Office.
On September 16, 2024, he was tragically killed in the line of duty while trying to apprehend a suspect.
“Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps left an indelible mark on the Russel County community,” Branscum added. “His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
