In an interview with Obinna, Steve, popularly known as Lekshara to his fans, shared the story of how he ventured into the massage business.
He explained that he came to Nairobi around 2013 and initially worked as a hawker. Seeking a better life, he decided to offer freelance massage services while still hawking on the side.

Recalling his early days, Steve said he lived in a bedsitter with a large bed, which inspired him to start showcasing his massage skills from home since he couldn’t afford a massage table at the time. “I thought, let me go to Gikomba, buy some bedsheets, and begin advertising myself. This helped me attract clients as I also paid influencers to post about my services,” he explained.
Steve revealed that a significant number of women in Nairobi had used his services. “Half of Nairobi’s women have been in my hands, maybe even 80%. It’s hard to keep track because there are so many,” he said.
He also shared that he had studied hairdressing and holistic therapy, realizing that the market was broader than he initially anticipated.
Steve opened up about a challenging period in his life when he suffered from depression and had suicidal thoughts. Fortunately, his family intervened and supported him through it. He credited Maina Kageni and King’ang’i for helping his business grow after they mentioned him on their radio show.
“Maina and King’ang’i spoke about me on their show, and that was my big break. Clients started reaching out, and that motivated me to return to Nairobi for work,” Steve said.
Since then, he noted that his business has been running successfully.
