NFL makes decision on Black National Anthem at Super Bowl with Trump attending

Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have been under attack since President Donald Trump returned to power, but it looks like the NFL won’t be caving in at least one area on Super Bowl Sunday.

Trump is reportedly slated to attend, and if he does, he will get to hear the playing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” prior to kick. Grammy Award-winning artist, Ledisi, is slated to sing the song, which is often called the Black National Anthem.

She shared a graphic on X announcing that she would sing the song and wrote “Honored.”

The inclusion of the song prior to major sporting events has long been singled out and attacked by Republicans. And, once again, folks are having meltdowns on social media over the news that the song will continue on with many of the same folks who promised previously that they would never watch the NFL again, promising once more to not watch the big game.

“The Black ‘National Anthem’ is being played at the Super Bowl,” Mila Joy wrote on X. “And with that I’ve decided that I won’t be watching. Black Americans ARE Americans. America has ONE National Anthem. The Black one is meant to divide.”

“President Trump will be there,” someone responded. “He will likely talk about their being one National Anthem.”

Some responded negatively on Ledisi’s post saying that she was “honored” to perform, too.

“Do we still need this song?” one person wrote.

And those were some of the more tame responses, overall, on X.

But there were plenty of folks, too, who were happy to see Ledisi get the opportunity.

“MY LADY WITH THE BIG VOICE!!!!” one person wrote “CONGRATS!!!!! I KNOW I’M GONNA BE POSTED!!!!!”
