Northside High Celebrates Black History with Music Event

A celebration of Black history’s musical legacy took place at Northside High School in Jacksonville. The event featured a diverse range of musical genres and performances, welcoming community members of all backgrounds.

Musical Performances and Education

The event showcased a variety of musical styles, including spirituals, hymns, gospel, jazz, and spoken word. Attendees responded enthusiastically to the music, with many dancing and singing along. Performances included a rendition of “Ain’t Nobody Gonna Turn Me Around” by a young group and a vocal performance by Maiya Crews. Throughout the event, speakers provided educational insights into Black history, commemorating the 100th year of observation.

Honoring Sonja Williams

Jacksonville native and Onslow County teacher Sonja Williams was recognized during the event. Williams addressed the audience, emphasizing the unifying power of music and its ability to bring together people from all walks of life. She encouraged attendees to embrace the opportunity for growth and betterment.
