René Awambeng, founder and managing partner of Premier Invest, participated in the Game Time Africa Summit 2026 in Rabat, Morocco. The summit, held January 15-16, 2026, focused on infrastructure development and its role in Africa’s economic transformation.
Awambeng spoke on the “Tech & Infrastructure: From Stadiums to Smart Cities” panel on Day 2 of the summit. His contribution centered on discussions regarding infrastructure, technology, and long-term investment in supporting Africa’s urbanization and economic growth. This participation aligns with Premier Invest’s strategy to develop innovative investment frameworks for sustainable infrastructure development.
Premier Invest Partners Limited is developing the Africa-focused African Sports & Infrastructure Fund (ASIF) in collaboration with partners from the sports and creative industries. The fund aims to leverage Africa’s global influence in sports and culture to support infrastructure projects across sectors including transportation, energy, healthcare, housing, and technology.
ASIF is designed to unite athletes, creatives, institutional investors, development finance institutions, and governments within a unified investment framework. The fund’s initial phase targets a USD 150 million fund size and will utilize a blended financing model. This model combines equity from African athletes, creatives, and private investors with debt financing from a Development Finance Institution (DFI), alongside participation from local governments. Tokenization will be incorporated to expand investor participation and enhance sustainability.
The fund will be established as an open-ended vehicle and will provide equity financing for the development of ten multipurpose arenas across key African cities. The structure aims to support bankable, ESG-aligned infrastructure projects that deliver economic and social impact, such as job creation, local enterprise development, and improved access to essential services.
According to René Awambeng, Africa’s success in sports and culture represents an underutilized platform for long-term economic development. ASIF seeks to align this influence with disciplined investment structures, strong governance, and long-term capital to support sustainable infrastructure.
Game Time Africa provides a forum for dialogue between policymakers, investors, developers, and leaders in the sports and technology sectors. Awambeng’s participation reflects Premier Invest’s commitment to contributing to these discussions and developing investment platforms aligned with Africa’s development priorities.
