Since July 1, 2021 when medical cannabis became legal in South Dakota a new industry has begun to form in the Black Hills. The region boasts 33 dispensaries, eight cultivation farms and five manufacturing facilities despite the mere 8,700 cardholders across the state — a total of less than 1% of its population.
