CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now Sports) – Starting at the age of four, Lawsen Quist has been passionate about playing soccer and dreamed of playing in college. That dream came true Monday afternoon.
Quist signed with the Black Hills State University Yellowjackets to play next fall.
“Going to play college soccer has been a dream of mine since I was little,” Quist said. “I never really thought that it was going to happen, so it’s kind of just at the real, it actually is turning into something, especially where I’m going. The first time I stepped onto the campus, I came away from it just knowing that it just felt like a home. It was just a no-brainer choosing Black Hills. I think the coaches, the girls, the campus, the town, everything about it is just everything that I want and everything that I love.”
Quist will be leaving behind a legacy for the Bison soccer team. She is the current all-time leading scorer for South and in this next season, is anticipated to become the all-time leader in assists and minutes played.
For many, high school soccer seasons occur in the fall. In Wyoming, soccer takes place in the spring, and Quist sees that as advantageous in her preparation to join the Yellowjackets.
“It’ll be helpful to be able to have my spring season and make it help me transition into college soccer,” Quist said. “It’s just kind of hard to know what to get out of the last season.”
Quist was named to the 4A East All-Conference team last season along with the second team All-State.
She finished the 2024 season with 13 goals.
Her final high school soccer season must wait until the spring, with the season starting in late March. However, Quist will first play in her final year of basketball for the Bison.
