Tim Scott makes history as longest-serving Black U.S. senator

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - With the new state Senate sworn in, one of South Carolina’s own is making history.

Sen. Tim Scott is now the longest-serving African American U.S. senator. He will also be the first African American chairman of a Senate standing committee.

The Republican will lead the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.

Scott first took office in 2013 after then-Gov. Nikki Haley appointed him to succeed Sen. Jim Demint . . .
