A heated confrontation between singer Tish Hyman and a transgender woman, Alexis Black, at a Los Angeles gym has ignited a wave of debate over gender identity, privacy, and inclusion in public locker rooms.
Hyman, best known for her songs Subway Art and Home for Christmas, was kicked out of Gold’s Gym Beverly Center after filming a series of rants accusing “grown men with big d***s” of entering the women’s locker room. The 42-year-old claimed she felt “afraid and unprotected,” saying she’d faced repeated encounters with trans individuals at the gym and received no support from staff.
Posting on social media, Hyman alleged that a trans person followed her into the women’s restroom and insulted her. “I ran out crying and screaming. This is why we can’t be quiet,” she wrote. She later revealed her membership was terminated after police escorted both parties from the scene.
The person identified in the viral video, Alexis Black, has since spoken out, disputing Hyman’s account. Speaking on TMZ Live, Black said she was fully covered in a towel during the interaction and denied any inappropriate behavior. “The truth in the moment is far from what she’s portraying,” she said, adding that she felt Hyman created a hostile environment for trans patrons.
Black, a somatic healer and fitness coach from Ohio, began her gender transition in late 2024 and started hormone therapy in February 2025. On social media, she described the journey as “not about becoming, but remembering who I am.”
Black also clarified that this was not the first encounter with Hyman, suggesting tensions had built up over time. “Something like this was bound to happen,” she told TMZ Live, noting that the debate over creating separate locker rooms for trans people isn’t as simple as it sounds.
The altercation occurred shortly before EoS Fitness acquired several Gold’s Gym locations in Southern California, including the Beverly Center branch where the dispute took place. The gym chain has not issued a formal statement, but staff reportedly told Hyman their “hands were tied by law.”
