Uganda and Kenya are set to renew their golf rivalry as they participate in the 2026 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC). The tournament will be held at the Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya, from March 23–26.
The event, organized by the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC), will feature over 100 junior golfers aged 18 and under from 15 African nations. It also serves as a qualifier for the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
The Kenya Golf Federation, in collaboration with the Kenya Golf Union and Junior Golf Federation, is coordinating the event management. The AGC president, Johnson Omollo, confirmed the collaborative effort.
Fourteen countries are expected to participate, including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Zambia, Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco, Cote d’Ivoire, and Ghana. The tournament will determine the winners in both the boys’ and girls’ categories who will qualify for the Toyota Junior World Cup of Golf in Nagoya, Japan.
South Africa, the defending champions and record 18-time winners, are considered the team to beat. Uganda finished fifth in the boys’ category at last year’s championship in Tunisia. The Ugandan team included John Paul Rugumambaju, Anthony Otukei, Shaka Kariisa, and Peter Mayende for the boys, and Keisha Wiltshire Kagoro, Rachael Laura Natukunda, and Elizabeth Danelle Kawalya for the girls.
Uganda last competed in the World Cup in 2023, having finished second at a qualifying event held at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort. The Ugandan boys’ team concluded the 72-hole championship with a total of 940 strokes, carding a closing round of 226 strokes. South Africa won the championship with a total of 850 strokes over the four rounds, finishing 90 strokes ahead of Uganda.
