Tennessee/Pennsylvania/North Carolina: In 1968, a 39-year old man was shot dead outside Room 306 at the Lorraine Motel. The man was Martin Luther King Jr, in Memphis, a town in the Deep South at the intersection of Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi that had once been a major slave market, to march with sanitation workers.
