Massie said, “Let me give you the name of one of the billionaires, John Paulson. He is a major donor to the Republican Party, a major donor to the Speaker of the House, a major donor to the president’s campaign and he is in Jeffrey Epstein’s black book.”

Who is John Paulson?

John Paulson is an American billionaire best known for founding Paulson & Co Inc in 1994, a New York-based investment management firm that focuses on event-driven investments such as mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs, as per Forbes report.

He gained worldwide attention in 2010 when he reportedly earned $5 billion in a single year, largely through gold-related investments.

Early Life And Education Of John Paulson

John Alfred Paulson was born on December 14, 1955, in Queens, New York. His father was Ecuadorian, and his mother was the daughter of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania and Romania.

Paulson graduated as valedictorian from New York University’s College of Business and Public Administration in 1978 with a degree in finance. He later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1980, as per Good Returns.

Paulson began his career at Boston Consulting Group before moving to Odyssey Partners, Bear Stearns, and Gruss Partners LP. In 1994, he established his own firm, Paulson & Co, which rose to prominence for its success in event-driven strategies.

Personal Life Of John Paulson

Paulson married Jenny Zaharia in 2000, and they have two daughters. The family owns properties in New York City, Aspen, and Southampton. In 2021, Paulson filed for divorce but later withdrew the case to settle matters privately.

Paulson donated $100 million to the Central Park Conservancy in 2012, the largest gift ever made to New York City’s park system. In 2015, he gave $400 million to Harvard University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, leading the school to be renamed in his honour.

He has also supported institutions like New York University, Southampton Hospital, and the London School of Economics.

Paulson has been a longtime donor to Republican candidates and causes.
