Where the United States leads on cultural issues, the United Kingdom usually follows, generally some years later with a lot less razzmatazz.

In the world of sports betting, though, the trend is the opposite.

The UK liberalised the industry many years ago. It is now a mature market looking at tighter regulation of a sector that has come under a lot of scrutiny and criticism in recent years.

But the US is going in the opposite direction after a 2018 Supreme Court case opened the door to individual states legalising betting on sports . . .
