Winter Park Skier Advances to Junior World Championships

Alivia Martin, a mogul skier and Grand County resident, has qualified to represent the United States at the 2026 FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships. The event is scheduled to take place in Airolo, Switzerland, from March 16-23.

Martin’s qualification was earned through the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Junior World Championship selection process, which ranks athletes based on their performance in national and NorAm competitions throughout the 2025–26 season.

Selection Process

Athletes are selected based on their top finishes in designated events, including U.S. Freestyle Selections and NorAm Cup competitions. The highest-ranked competitors earn positions on the U.S. team.

Winter Park Competition Center

Martin trains with the Winter Park Competition Center Freestyle Moguls Team. The center is part of a ski development program established in 1962. It has developed generations of elite athletes and Olympians across various disciplines, including alpine, freestyle, snowboard, freeski, and Nordic skiing.

Winter Park is recognized as a training ground for top mogul skiers. Competition Center athletes have advanced to World Cup teams and the Olympic stage, with the program’s Ambush mogul course hosting national and international competitions.

Athlete Profile

At 15 years old, Martin has quickly become a promising young mogul skier, participating in FIS-sanctioned events and national competitions.

Laurie Mooney, the freestyle program director at the Winter Park Competition Center, stated that Martin has worked diligently to reach this level and that qualifying for Junior Worlds is a significant achievement.

Junior World Championships

The FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships gather top young mogul skiers from around the world and often serve as a pathway to World Cup and Olympic competition.
