Singer-songwriter and visual artist Coster Ojwang has launched a new weekly multilingual podcast series. The podcast aims to celebrate and document Kenya’s contemporary music and art scene.
The audio-visual podcast, titled MBAKA: The Boiling Pot, is hosted on Ojwang’s YouTube channel and intends to serve as a creative hub. MBAKA, a Luo word signifying stories, reflects the podcast’s focus on cultural narratives and blending.
The podcast explores the creative processes behind songs and offers in-depth interviews. It also documents Kenya’s music heritage for future generations, incorporating fan conversations, diaspora perspectives, and interactive storytelling. Ojwang states the podcast intends to provide sustained attention to the profound meaning, history, and emotion within Kenyan music.
Akello Lolo, the only female vocalist in Ojwang’s Fisher’s Band, hosts the podcast. Since its debut on January 28, 2026, MBAKA has featured various musicians, creatives, and content creators. The first episode featured Mordecai Dex, a member of H_ART The Band and KodongKlan, with a discussion on their first meeting and the evolution of Kenyan music.
Coster Ojwang is known for fusing African rhythms with soulful storytelling, having accumulated over two million global streams and released several albums. His artistic identity influences the podcast’s direction, including discussions on live performance and creative chemistry with artists like Serro. Ojwang believes the platform addresses a gap by shifting focus from hype to cultural preservation, emphasizing analysis and understanding of Kenyan music.
Season one of MBAKA: The Boiling Pot will run from January to June 2026 and will consist of 12 episodes. The episodes will be released in English, Kiswahili, and Dholuo, with subtitles provided for international audiences.
