South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will hold a voter registration weekend in preparation for local government elections. The event is planned for June 20 and 21.
The IEC will provide citizens with an opportunity to register to vote or update their existing voter information during the weekend event.
The official date for the local government elections will be announced by Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa, after the voter registration period concludes.
IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo stated that the voter registration weekend is a crucial element in facilitating a comprehensive and accessible electoral process.
