AFAPREDESA commemorates National Day of Disappeared

Shaheed El Hafed, June 21, 2026 (SPS) – The Association of Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared Persons (AFAPREDESA) organized a human rights forum to commemorate the National Day of the Disappeared, at the association’s headquarters, under the theme “Memory and Justice.”

The forum was attended by human rights representatives from the occupied territories, the Sahrawi diaspora, and the refugee camps.

The event opened with a speech by the association’s president, Abdeslam Omar, who stressed the need to intensify efforts to uncover the truth about the disappeared Sahrawis, determine their fate, and achieve justice through various national and international human rights mechanisms and channels.

He called on the international community to assume its historical responsibilities toward the humanitarian cause of a people who have endured injustice for more than five decades.

For his part, the Minister for the Occupied Territories and the Diaspora, President of the National Mechanism for Coordination and Action in the Field of Human Rights, Mohamed El Mami Tamek, spoke about the situation of the families of disappeared Sahrawis, their suffering, and the psychological and moral impact they continue to endure. He emphasized the importance of human rights advocacy in securing justice for them through the full disclosure of the truth.

The forum featured a firsthand testimony from a Sahrawi survivor of mass graves established by the Moroccan occupying authorities in Western Sahara, which, according to the testimony, were intended as part of a campaign of genocide against the Sahrawi people.
