African Union Praises Uganda Election, Confirms Museveni Win

Uganda’s general elections were commended by the African Union on Friday. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was congratulated on his re-election following the January 15th vote.

Election Results and Recognition

According to official results from the Electoral Commission, Museveni secured 71.61% of the vote. African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf issued a statement recognizing the election results and acknowledging the commitment of Ugandan institutions and citizens to democratic processes.

Election Observation Mission

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan led a joint African Union, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) election observation mission. The African Union stated that this mission played a role in assessing the credibility of the elections, contributing to transparency and public confidence.

African Union’s Continued Commitment

Mahmoud Ali Youssouf reaffirmed the African Union Commission’s dedication to promoting democracy, good governance, and constitutional order throughout the continent. He also acknowledged the participation of Ugandans and their commitment to peace, security, and national development.
