Audi’s First US Plant: $4 Billion Georgia Factory, 4,500 Jobs

Audi will build its first US factory in Georgia, a $4 billion plant that’s expected to create about 4,500 jobs and build up to 200,000 vehicles a year.

The plant will go up at the Middle Georgia Mega Site, Audi said in a press release on Sunday. Construction is set to start in 2027, with production planned for the early 2030s. President Donald Trump announced the plant at a rally in nearby Perry on Saturday night.

SUVs Built for Americans

Audi says the factory will build premium SUVs tailored to North American buyers, but it hasn’t said which ones. Reuters reported that the plant is expected to build the Q7, Q8 and the new Q9.

Right now, Audi doesn’t build a single car in the US. Every Audi sold here comes from overseas or Mexico, which leaves the brand exposed to tariffs. Audi said a North American plant would cut its trade and currency risks, and make North America its third production base alongside Europe and China.

“We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America,” said Gernot Döllner, the CEO of Audi. Production chief Gerd Walker said, “Building a new plant from the ground up allows us to rethink manufacturing from day one.”

Where the Plant Is Going

The site sits about 5 miles west of Interstate 75 on the eastern edge of Fort Valley in Peach County, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Perry, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Georgia and the Development Authority of Peach County bought the roughly 1,100-acre site in 2022, and it can grow to about 2,400 acres.

“We are proud to welcome one of the world’s most iconic automotive brands to Georgia,” Gov. Brian Kemp said. Neither the state nor Audi has said what incentives it’s offering.

Grading is set to begin in 2027, with full production expected in 2031, WSB-TV reported.

Audi joins a long list of automakers in the Southeast. Hyundai builds EVs near Savannah, Kia has a plant in West Point, and Rivian is building a factory east of Atlanta. Audi’s parent company, Volkswagen, already builds cars in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and its Scout brand is building a plant in South Carolina.
