BUILDING LEGACIES THROUGH WORLD-CLASS SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE – Ministry of Defence – Kenya

Kenya continues to advance the development of modern sports infrastructure that will elevate the country’s global sporting profile while creating lasting opportunities for athletes and future generations. At the centre of this ambition is the Raila Amolo Odinga International Stadium, also known as Talanta Sports City, a flagship project designed to meet international standards ahead of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 and future global sporting events.

As construction enters its final phases, the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, conducted an inspection tour of the facility to assess progress and review the implementation of key construction milestones.

The inspection highlighted the significant progress achieved across the project, which is expected to become one of Kenya’s premier sporting venues. Beyond hosting international competitions, the stadium is envisioned as a long-term national asset that will support sports development, stimulate economic activity and strengthen Kenya’s reputation as a destination capable of staging world-class events.

During the visit, General Kahariri received comprehensive briefs from engineers, contractors and project managers on construction progress, milestone achievements and compliance with structural, safety and quality standards. He toured key sections of the facility, including the main playing arena and spectator stands, to evaluate the pace, quality and overall execution of the works.

The CDF commended the progress made and urged the project team to maintain the current momentum while ensuring that every phase of construction adheres to the highest engineering, safety and quality standards. He emphasized that delivering a stadium of international calibre demands sustained professionalism, close collaboration and meticulous attention to detail until completion.

Once completed, the Raila Amolo Odinga International Stadium will provide world-class facilities for athletes, officials, media, spectators and other stakeholders. The venue is expected to play a pivotal role in Kenya’s hosting of AFCON 2027 while creating a lasting legacy that supports sports excellence, youth development and national growth.

The inspection was attended by the Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr Patrick Mariru, Service Commanders, senior military officers and officials from the Ministry of Defence.
