CAF to Assess Ogun Stadiums for Schools Football Championship

The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will arrive in Nigeria on Monday. Their visit is to inspect facilities in preparation for hosting the African Schools Football Championship Final Phase.

Inspection of Facilities

The CAF officials’ visit will focus on the Remo Stars Stadium and associated training pitches in Ikenne-Remo, as well as the FC Ebedei Stadium and training pitches in Sagamu. The inspection will also include assessments of hospitals and hotel facilities in both towns.

African Schools Football Championship Overview

The African Schools Football Championship, initiated four years ago, is an annual U15 tournament. The tournament aims to foster youth football development and promote education throughout Africa.

Tournament Support and Partnerships

The championship receives $10 million in support from a foundation established by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe. The tournament includes zonal qualifiers culminating in the continental final. It features competition for both boys and girls.

Previous Winners and Prizes

The 2024 finals were held in Accra, Ghana, with Tanzania’s boys and Ghana’s girls claiming victory. Winners are awarded up to $300,000 for infrastructural development. The tournament also involves partnerships with UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to provide health education.

CAF Inspection Team

The CAF inspection team includes Omar Amr (Safeguarding), Fatima Elmissaoui (ASFC officer), Herve Dassoundo (Marketing & Branding), Mahmoud Amer (Travel/Logistics), Diabate Zakarhiya (Safety & Security), Hend Thabet (Travel & Accommodation), Joshua Knipp (ASFC Competition), and Philippe Tchere, the Executive Director of WAFU B. The team will conduct venue inspections in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu on February 3rd and 4th, 2026.
