CAF to Inspect Kenyan Stadiums for Afcon Preparations

Kenya is preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) alongside Uganda and Tanzania. The government has announced plans to invite a high-level Confederation of African Football (CAF) delegation to inspect key stadiums.
Stadium Inspection Plans
The government expects a CAF inspection team to visit Kenya next month to assess the progress of stadium construction and rehabilitation. This proactive approach aims to ensure all facilities meet CAF and FIFA standards before the tournament. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya stated the move will allow for early incorporation of CAF recommendations.
Raila Odinga International Stadium Progress
During an inspection tour, Mvurya revealed that construction at the Raila Odinga International Stadium, formerly Talanta Sports Complex, has reached 85 percent completion. He was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya, and other senior government officials. External works and training facilities are expected to be finalized by the end of February, followed by auxiliary works. The formal adoption of the stadium’s new name is currently underway.
Other Infrastructure Projects
Mvurya indicated that seven other critical sports infrastructure projects linked to Afcon 2027 are at advanced stages of construction. He emphasized a whole-of-government approach to ensure Kenya’s readiness as engagements with CAF intensify.
Government Commitment
Soipan Tuya, Cabinet Secretary for Defence, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the construction work. She assured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s Afcon hosting rights by delivering all required facilities on time. Tuya stated the progress demonstrates the government’s commitment to delivering legacy projects within agreed timelines.
