Cricket: Kenya begin final Challenge League stage at home in Nairobi · SNA

Kenya begin the final stage of Challenge League A at home on Wednesday 21 October 2026 against Denmark. Through to 31 October, Nairobi hosts the six teams in the group. For Kenya, this run of five matches is part of the qualification path for the 2027 World Cup.

The opening fixture is set for 9:30 in Nairobi, which is 7:30 in Brazzaville and Kinshasa. Matches in this stage are split between Nairobi Gymkhana and Ruaraka Sports Club. After Denmark, the hosts face Qatar, Jersey, Kuwait and Papua New Guinea.

Two places to progress, but no direct ticket to the World Cup

The Challenge League is played over fifty six-ball overs per side, a longer format than T20. The top two in each group go through to the qualifying play-off tournament, where they will meet the bottom four sides from League 2. Finishing in the top two therefore does not book a World Cup place outright.

The standings run across the whole cycle, organised in three stages from 2024 to 2026. Teams do not start from scratch in Nairobi. Results from this final series will be added to those of the first two, which gives each match a different weight depending on the team’s starting position.

A schedule running from Denmark to Papua New Guinea

Kenya play Qatar on 24 October and Jersey the following day. They then meet Kuwait on 28 October before finishing against Papua New Guinea on 31 October. The back-to-back matches on 24 and 25 October make up the tightest block in their programme.

Jersey prepared for the trip with a stay in Uganda. The squad includes Asa Tribe, alongside captain Chuggy Perchard. The visitors therefore arrive in Nairobi after preparing in East Africa, rather than going straight into the tournament off the plane.

Kigali win is a separate story

Kenya won the Continental Cup in Kigali in September, beating Uganda by 39 runs in the final. That recent result offers context for the side led by Dhiren Gondaria. However, it belongs to T20: it earns no points in this Challenge League.

To follow the Nairobi matches, the distinction is essential. Kenya are pursuing their fifty-over programme on the road to the 2027 World Cup. The African T20 qualifiers currently being held in Abuja are a different competition and a different World Cup.
