Dyss Organizes Sports and Wellness Program in Jammu and Kashmir

The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K (DYSS) held a large-scale event on Sunday to commemorate the 140th International Women’s Day. The celebration combined physical activity with digital outreach, engaging thousands of young women and female officials throughout the Union Territory.

Yoga Session and Virtual Participation

Approximately 300 students and field officials participated in an intensive Yoga Session at the Sports Complex in Wazir Bagh. The session was broadcast live on virtual platforms, enabling participation from individuals in remote areas of J&K. This initiative, led by Director General Anuradha Gupta, aimed to integrate wellness practices with traditional sports.

District-Level Activities and Themes

District Youth Services and Sports Offices (DYSSOs) across J&K organized various women-focused sporting events. In Kishtwar, the theme “Nari Shakti” emphasized the moral and social importance of women, highlighting their dedication and sacrifice. Budgam hosted debates and sports activities at the zonal level, encouraging young women to discuss gender equality while maintaining physical fitness.

Departmental Participation and Recognition

Kulgam saw over 100 female field staff members, including Physical Education Teachers (PETs) and Recreations and Extension Knowledge (REK) officers, participate in tug-of-war and volleyball. Bandipora district honored national-level players in Rugby and Kabaddi, recognizing athletes like Simran Mushtaq and Aakla Bashir. Poonch concluded its events by awarding medals to participants in the National School Games, with nearly 360 female athletes involved.

Director General’s Message and Overall Impact

Director General Anuradha Gupta stated that empowerment is a continuous journey of self-belief and that encouraging young women in sports builds both athletes and leaders. The DYSS’s commitment to “Sports for All” was evident as field officers and students collaborated to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity through various sports and recreational activities.
