Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are preparing for a “Pamoja” summit next week to finalize plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027). The summit will involve sports ministers from the three co-host nations.
The primary focus of the summit will be operational matters crucial for the tournament’s success. Discussions will center on visa facilitation and tax exemptions for teams, officials, and other stakeholders involved in the competition.
Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary, Salim Mvurya, stated the summit will serve as a decision-making platform to resolve pending issues and synchronize regional efforts. He emphasized the urgency of coordinated planning, noting several key decisions will be made regarding visas and tax exemptions.
The summit is anticipated to produce a structured roadmap to guide preparations in the coming months. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will provide advisory support in developing this roadmap, which will translate the joint bid into a unified execution strategy.
Salim Mvurya affirmed Kenya’s readiness to co-deliver the tournament, highlighting a schedule of preparatory activities. The collaborative approach among the three nations indicates growing momentum as they prepare to host the major sporting event.
