Football passion reached fever pitch across East Africa over the weekend as the original English Premier League (EPL) trophy concluded its regional tour in Kenya, thrilling fans in both Kisumu and Nairobi.
The African leg of the tour specifically targeted East African neighbours, Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya, as the region ramps up excitement to co-host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
After launching in Dar es Salaam on October 9 and visiting Uganda from October 11-13, the iconic silverware made its final stop in Kenya, where supporters of clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City turned out in large numbers.

In a landmark shift from previous years, the trophy was taken to Kisumu on Friday before moving to Nairobi on Saturday.
The inclusion of the Lakeside city reflects the rapidly growing EPL fanbase across Western Kenya.
Arsenal supporters were particularly electric during the showcase, celebrating up close with the trophy held by defending champions.
Highlighting the decision to expand the tour beyond the capital, Roland Ofori, Head of Beers at Kenya Breweries Limited, representing Guinness, emphasised the unmatched dedication of local supporters.
“And that passion is something that always qualifies Kenya as a preferred destination for the English Premier League,” said Ofori.
“And this year, we worked really hard to say that when it comes to Kenya, Kenya is not just Nairobi. So, for the first time, we needed to do all we could to bring it to this esteemed country. And then we are glad that finally, we’ve been able to make it happen.”
The arrival of the trophy in Kisumu marked a historic moment for the local sports community, offering fans from all walks of life the rare chance to snap photos with football’s most coveted domestic prize.
Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Ochieng Owili expressed immense pride in hosting the global event.
“It is a historic honour for Kisumu, the city on the lake, to host the most coveted trophy in the world,” Owili declared.
“For the first time, this global icon touches the soil of our lakeside city, a city of passion, talent and football lovers. Today, we are not just celebrating football; we are celebrating a legacy.”
As East Africa prepares to take center stage for AFCON 2027, the tour served as a powerful testament to the region’s enduring love for the game.
