FKF Ordered to Maintain Status Quo Ahead of FIFA-CAF Kenya Visit

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced plans for a joint mission to Kenya following governance concerns at Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

FIFA said it was referring to previous correspondence and a letter dated 25 May 2026 addressed to FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) members.

“We refer to our previous correspondence as well as to FIFA’s letter dated 25 May 2026 addressed to the members of the FKF National Executive Committee (attached for ease of reference),” stated FIFA.

“In this context, and further to our recent exchanges, we would like to reiterate that FIFA, in coordination with CAF, is currently in the process of organising a joint mission to Kenya.”

The two global football bodies are coordinating a joint mission to Kenya, expected after 18 June, subject to logistical arrangements.

FIFA emphasised that matters affecting FKF leadership must comply strictly with the FKF Constitution to safeguard stability and proper federation functioning.

FIFA said the visit will engage FKF NEC members directly to understand the current governance situation in detail.

According to FIFA, the mission aims to obtain a comprehensive understanding of issues and provide appropriate guidance to the federation FKF.

“The purpose of this visit will be to engage directly with the members of the FKF National Executive Committee and to discuss in detail the current situation, with a view to obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the matters at hand and providing appropriate guidance,” stated FIFA.

In light of this, FIFA requested FKF NEC members to refrain from convening further meetings or making decisions affecting governance until the mission is completed.

It further warned that any decisions taken before the mission could affect governance, leadership, and overall stability of the federation, FKF.

FIFA additionally asked FKF to ensure the correspondence is shared with all NEC members for information and consideration immediately.

“In light of the above, and in the interest of safeguarding institutional stability, we kindly but firmly request that the members of the FKF National Executive Committee refrain, in the meantime, from convening further meetings or taking decisions that may have an impact on the governance, leadership or overall stability of the federation until the FIFA/CAF mission has taken place and the relevant discussions have been held,” warned FIFA.

This comes against the background of the intense leadership crisis at the helm of the federation, where, in late April, nine of the fourteen NEC members voted to suspend President Hussein Mohammed over allegations of financial mismanagement, particularly a controversial Ksh42 million CHAN insurance deal. Deputy President McDonald Mariga was installed as the acting president, a move that has since brought a tussle.
