Hip-hop legend Lauryn Hill says Rohan Marley never cheated on her

(NewsNation) — Hip-hop luminary Lauryn Hill has cleared up longstanding infidelity rumors about her relationship with the father of five of her children, Rohan Marley.

The “Doo Wop (That Thing)” singer took to Instagram to wish Marley, a former college football player and the son of legendary reggae artist Bob Marley, a happy birthday and to dispel cheating rumors.

“For those who didn’t know better, @romarley never cheated on me!” Hill wrote in the caption. “I remember the beginning when we were young, majestic, and uniting our worlds. Have a blessed one, King.”

Their relationship began in the 1990s, when Hill was ascending to prominence as a member of the rap trio the Fugees alongside Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, according to the Atlanta Black Star. Hill and Marley were never officially married and reportedly split around 2009.

Hill gave birth to Zion Marley in 1997, who inspired the song “To Zion” on her 1998 debut and only solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” according to the outlet.

The genre-blending project is regarded by some critics as one of the best albums ever, having won five Grammy Awards and recently topping Apple Music’s 2024 list of the greatest albums of all time.

One of the former couple’s children, 24-year-old Joshua Marley who performs as YG Marley, has shown glimpses of talent that reflect his legendary musical heritage. In 2023, he released the popular “Praise Jah In The Moonlight,” which sampled his grandfather Bob Marley’s iconic song “Crisis” featuring The Wailers.
