HoR Committee directs govt. to seek clarification from three int’l human rights institutions « Khabarhub

The House of Representatives (HoR) Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights meeting.

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights has directed the government to seek clarification from three international human rights institutions, which issued statement on independence of Nepali judiciary.

The Committee meeting held today directed the government to seek justification from Amnesty International, the International Commission of Jurists and the Human Rights Watch over the joint statement they gave on July 24, mentioning Nepal’s judiciary and judicial jurisdiction on sovereignty.

The Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security has been asked to seek clarification along with official evidence from these international organizations.

The government has been suggested to take necessary move to ensure transparent, accountable and service-friendly judiciary which keeps in account the spirit of independent judiciary, principles of separation of power and values of good governance. The Committee meeting also decided to discuss further on this topic.

The Committee further instructed the government to make further effective the project agreements of the Ministry and the Social Welfare Council make with non-government organizations in line with Social Welfare Council Act, 2049; Social Welfare Regulation, 2049, and the existing laws.

Regular inspection, evaluation and monitoring are imperative on the projects run by the I/NGOs on whether these are enforced in line with set objectives in the agreements.

The parliamentary bodies gave such direction and suggestions after holding discussion with Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam and legal experts.
