India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India scored 255 runs and dismissed New Zealand for 159, setting several records during the match.
Criticism of Pakistan’s Cricket System
Veteran Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad voiced concerns regarding Pakistan’s cricket system following India’s victory. He stated that while Pakistan possesses considerable talent, the nation lacks the structure and discipline evident in India’s cricket program. He pointed to the success of Indian players like Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan as examples of how a robust system can cultivate match-winning players. Samson was recognized as the Player of the Tournament.
Player Development and Opportunity
Shehzad highlighted that Samson and Kishan were given limited opportunities before the T20 World Cup but ultimately became key contributors. He emphasized the importance of discipline within a cricket system, noting how players who perform well in domestic cricket can be integrated into the national team. He also praised Abhishek Sharma for his performance, scoring 52 runs in 21 balls during the final.
Rankings and Competition Level
Shehzad criticized Pakistan’s tendency to celebrate victories against lower-ranked teams, such as Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Kenya. He questioned the level of competition Pakistan was engaging in and suggested that Pakistan’s ICC rankings should be separated from those of top-tier teams like India, Australia, and England. He proposed a separate ranking system exclusively for matches against teams like Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Uganda.
