Julius Migos Ogamba, born in 1967, is a Kenyan lawyer and public administrator currently serving as Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education. He assumed office on 8 August 2024 following his appointment by President William Ruto. As CS, Ogamba is responsible for overseeing Kenya’s education sector, including policy formulation, curriculum implementation, higher education, technical and vocational training, and education sector reforms.
Before joining the Cabinet, Ogamba served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen), where he provided strategic oversight to Kenya’s leading electricity generation company, contributing to corporate governance and the country’s energy development agenda.
A seasoned legal practitioner, Ogamba is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Commissioner for Oaths, and Notary Public. He is also the Senior Partner at Migos Ogamba & Waudo Advocates, where he has built an extensive career in legal practice, advising clients on corporate, commercial, and public law matters.
Ogamba has also participated in Kenya’s electoral politics. In the 2017 General Election, he contested the Kitutu Chache North parliamentary seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket but was unsuccessful. During the 2022 General Election, he was the running mate to former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu in the race for the Kisii County governorship under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket. The pair was defeated by Simba Arati.
Ogamba holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Law from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
