Kenya is preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania. Following their failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Harambee Stars aim to demonstrate their competitiveness as hosts.
Support for Coach Benni McCarthy
The Kenya Football Federation (FKF) is outlining plans to support coach Benni McCarthy in preparation for the 2027 AFCON. FKF President Hussein Mohammed stated that the federation has engaged in extensive discussions with McCarthy regarding the team’s needs.
Creating an Enabling Environment
Mohammed indicated that the FKF is working to create an enabling environment for McCarthy and his coaching staff. This includes addressing their wish list and ensuring the federation and the Kenyan government provide the necessary resources for the team’s success. He emphasized a commitment to supporting the technical bench throughout the journey.
Commitment to Success in 2027
Mohammed assured Kenyans and the technical benches that the FKF will provide ongoing support. He expressed confidence that the 2027 AFCON in East Africa will be “bigger and better.”
