Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has challenged Western Kenya leaders to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election, urging the region to consolidate its political support and avoid fragmented voting patterns.
Mudavadi described President Ruto as a visionary leader whose broad-based administration was focused on national stability, development and economic transformation.
“We have a great leader in the broad-based President William Ruto, a leader with vision who is committed to ensuring stability and development in our country,” he said.
While addressing leaders from Mumias East and Shinyalu in Kakamega, the Prime CS called for a united political front, urging them to support the President’s re-election bid and deliver a decisive electoral outcome.
He questioned the opposition’s readiness to form an alternative government, arguing that its lack of cohesion raised concerns about its ability to organise for a presidential election.
“Kenya is not ready to be led by a disorganised, disoriented, disunited and disjointed team. We need stability, leaders with a clear agenda and a government focused on delivering development,” he said.
He reminded Kenyans that the Constitution requires a presidential candidate to secure at least 50 per cent plus one of the valid votes cast nationally and at least 25 per cent of the votes in more than half of the 47 counties.
He urged Western Kenya leaders to consolidate their votes, noting that political fragmentation has limited the region’s influence in national decision-making.
“Western Kenya must change the narrative of being taken for granted. We must consolidate our votes, avoid fragmentation and speak with one voice on matters of our region’s development,” he said.
Mudavadi urged Western Kenya to vote for UDA candidates in all elective seats, saying that increased representation in Parliament would strengthen the region’s participation in parliamentary committees and national decision-making processes.
He called on leaders to prioritise unity, stability and a common development agenda as the country prepares for the next electoral cycle.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary also expressed confidence in the Government’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair and credible electoral process in 2027.
