On Sunday, teargas was deployed at ACK Witima Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, during a service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The incident resulted in injuries to congregants and drew widespread condemnation. Former Deputy President Gachagua has asserted that the event was not a random act of violence but a deliberate operation sanctioned by the state and involving police officers.
