Kenya to Host Hybrid Workshop on Horizon Europe Africa Initiative

A workshop designed to enhance the capacity of Kenyan researchers and innovators in securing EU funding is scheduled. The event will concentrate on the Horizon Europe-Africa Initiative IV, offering practical guidance on collaborative research, mobility, and networking opportunities.

The workshop is part of a series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the EU-Kenya partnership, recognizing five decades of collaborative efforts in research, innovation, and sustainable development.

Workshop Focus

The hybrid workshop will provide hands-on training on utilizing the EURAXESS platform and the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. Participants will learn to identify relevant funding calls, locate potential partners, and effectively navigate the application process. Emphasis will be placed on developing robust consortia and collaborating with partners from EU member states, associated countries, and other nations, including those in Africa.

Expected Outcomes

The workshop aims to strengthen Kenya’s innovation ecosystem and improve the competitiveness of research proposals. It is expected to contribute to long-term goals of research excellence, science diplomacy, and sustainable development, while also clarifying the EU research funding landscape for participants.

The event will be attended by several key figures, including Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, Principal Secretary, State Department for Science, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education; H.E. Henriette Geiger, Ambassador of the European Union to Kenya; Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Vice Chancellor of Strathmore University; Dr. Laurent Bochereau, Minister-Counsellor for Science, Technology and Innovation at the European Union Delegation to the African Union; and Dr. Yedilfana Setarge, Regional Representative for EURAXESS Africa.
