Rabat – King Mohammed VI has sent a congratulatory message to Morocco’s national futsal team following their win in the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which saw the Atlas Lions secure their fourth consecutive continental title.
Morocco defeated Angola 5-2 in Wednesday’s final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat, adding another trophy to their previous triumphs in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
In his message, the King extended his “warmest congratulations and expressions of pride” to the players following their win in the eighth edition of the competition, which Morocco hosted in Rabat.
The monarch also expressed his satisfaction with the successful organization of the tournament and the hospitality shown by the Kingdom.
King Mohammed VI congratulated the players and, through them, the technical and administrative staff of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) for their contributions to the achievement.
The King attributed the team’s continued success to its “outstanding and entertaining professional performance,” along with the players’ determination to retain the African title for a fourth consecutive time.
The monarch also commended their sense of national pride and commitment to strengthening Morocco’s position among leading national teams at both continental and international levels.
In the closing part of his message, the monarch renewed his appreciation for the team’s performance and for once again raising Morocco’s flag at the African tournament.
The King also wished the players and staff continued success in securing “more titles and achievements” in upcoming competitions.
Under head coach Hicham Dguig, Morocco completed another successful continental campaign, winning all five matches.
The Atlas Lions defeated Algeria 4-0, Zambia 7-0 and Libya 6-0 in the group stage before beating Egypt 6-0 in the semifinals.
Their victory over Angola secured a fourth African title, making Morocco the most successful team in the competition’s history, ahead of Egypt, who have won three titles.
The achievement extends Morocco’s winning streak in African futsal, with the Atlas Lions having lifted every edition of the tournament since 2016.
